Today at Delmar Gardens there was a special music
guest! Craig's friend Roberta Mueller (aka TallBerta) was performing.
She is one of Dad's FAVORITES!! We knew but didn't tell Dad.
We got there earlier than normal and Dad wasn't in the dining room
yet, Craig went to grab some chairs and I found Dad slow-poking
down the hall I told him, "Hurry up, we're missing the show!"
and wheeled him quickly to the dining room. He saw Roberta and his
eyes lit up and he smiled one of those BIG Johnny smiles.
I grew up around music: Mom would play the organ, I'd play the
piano, sometimes the violin and dad would sing. Roberta played some
oldies like "You are My Sunshine," "That's Amore"
-- his eyes lit up and he grinned from ear to ear -- but the one
that got us was "Puff the Magic Dragon." That
was one mom loved to play. Dad squeezed my hand and said, "I
wish your Mom was here." Yes, Mom would have loved
Roberta's silly made-up lyrics and would have more than likely asked
to have been wheeled to the piano to accompany her.
